New York Coffee Craze
By: Gavy Contreras
New York is the city that never sleeps, maybe it’s because of all the “cawfee” we drink. Coffee is an essential part of any New Yorkers life and is the main reason why we manage to get through the day. Even in the 17th century the women of NYC were already roasting their own coffee. One of a New Yorkers bragging rights is the fact that our coffee is so great and it’s arguably been the nation’s central location for it. In an interview with PIX 11, Donald Schoenholt, president of the city’s oldest coffee roaster, said “For an enormous number of years, we were the coffee roasting center for the whole continent.”
Other than this beverage’s addictive taste, it also has some amazing health benefits! According to Medical News Today, coffee is associated with protecting against type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, liver disease, liver cancer and promotes a healthy heart. One Medical Group also associates the drink with curbing depression and enhancing exercise performance. This coffee craze doesn’t seem like it’s going to slow down anytime soon, but honestly, who can’t get enough of coffee?

This café in the Upper East Side is a French themed bistro. It was once an art gallery before the owner thought of transforming it into the European style shop with delicious coffee. This quaint shop manages to outdo itself with amazing decor all around. A hanging chandelier, small paintings on the wall, great service, what’s not to love? Theo Dimov, son of the café owner, said to the NY Press, “Come start your day right. Have a croissant, have a coffee and, you know, do your thing.”
